Year 5-8 St Heliers School Athletics

This year’s senior school athletics was one of our most competitive and busiest sports events ever. We were lucky to have the sun peeking through the clouds, which provided shade for most of the day at Glover Park.
The morning sessions saw the girls competing in the track events with the boys involved in field events. In the afternoon their roles were reversed.

This year also saw the return of the classic 4x100m relay, much to the delight of students, teachers and parents who were there to support the children. The level of competition was excellent throughout the day as was the level of sportsmanship.

Special thanks to all of you who assisted in any way with the preparation and packing up of this event, especially Eastern Athletics Club for allowing us to use their equipment.

Year 7&8 Eastern Zone Touch Tournament

Three teams from St Heliers School competed at this year’s Eastern Zone intermediate touch competition, which was held at Madill’s Farm in Kohimarama. We were blessed with a sunny day and high level of competition from schools such as King’s Prep, Pt England School and St Kentigern’s. Our teams tried their best in all games, showing great skill and teamwork, while also picking up new skills when faced against tougher opponents. Our best performing team was the Open Girls team, who qualified for a semi-final spot. Unfortunately they lost to a strong Baradene side who went on to finish second behind Pt England School. Well done to all of our teams and huge thanks to those parents who assisted with driving and managing on the day.
