With ANZAC Day falling in the school holidays, we held our school ceremony in the last week of Term 1. Unfortunately, we were unable to have the ceremony in front of our school flagpole and Field of Remembrance because of the weather, nevertheless the ceremony held in the school hall had the same impact.

All classes study or discuss aspects of ANZAC Day and the events surrounding it, learning about a significant time in New Zealand’s history. Our school ceremony was a poignant way to round off those studies.

Mr Young gave the children a very good explanation of the background to the ceremony, Levi and Preston who are the flag monitors Room 21 did a great job of lowering and raising the flag during the ceremony, and Sam and Frances from Room 17 laid a beautiful wreath that the class had made.

Our senior school choir sang a lovely version of ‘In Flanders Field’ and we were grateful to Mayna Tse from Glendowie College who beautifully played The Last Post and The Rouse.
