Sensible Food Choices

As part of our Term 1 inquiry based around responsible citizenship Year 5, was visited by a nutritionist. Children were taught about concepts related to making sensible food choices for basic nutrition as they become more independent and responsible for their own health and wellbeing. To test their learning, we had a trip to the local Pak’nSave where children worked in groups to research nutritional values stated on food labels and decide on the healthiest options. This lead to many in depth discussions and lots of ideas of what could be done to make their favourite ‘naughty treats’ more healthy. At the end, each child received a lunch box which has a healthy eating reminder on the lid.
