Year 2 children

The Year 2 children finally celebrated their 100th day at school in Week 5 in Term 3. Normally we would have clocked up our 100th day at school at the beginning of Term 3 but we were delayed due to the year being a bit unusual with lockdowns.
Traditionally and throughout the year as part of our mathematics programme, the Year 2 children do a countdown to the 100th day at school, using the calendar to learn about number patterning, tallying and place value concepts. Each year, once we get to ‘Day 100’ the children do many 100-day activities, including creating a special hat and having a hat parade in front of the junior school as part of our celebration.

The children had been so patient waiting for our parade; we decided that we would make it the focus of our opportunity to host the Y0-4 Merit assembly. This gave us the chance to share our experiences with the rest of the junior children, our parents and whanau. The Year 2 children were able to share their writing about what they would like to do before they turned 100 years old and at the end of our assembly they all sang ‘Paradise’ and showed our audience how they had learned to sign the words using New Zealand Sign Language.
