Home Zone

All students who live within the home zone shown on the list of roads published on the School Zone page shall be entitled to enrol at the school.

Each year, applications for enrolment for the following year from in-zone students, will be sought by a date that will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. This will enable the Board to assess the number of places that can be made available to students who live outside the home zone.

For more information about enrolment at St Heliers School or an application form, please contact the school.

Cohort Entry

Cohort entry is when new entrants start school in groups through the year, rather than on their fifth birthday.  St Heliers School has adopted a policy of cohort entry.  New entrants will start in cohorts, however only after the child has turned 5.  There are two entry dates per term, one on the first day of term, and one at a mid-term date during the term. These dates can be found on the website under the heading Day to Day - Term Dates.

Pre-school Visits

As a student nears their fifth birthday, pre-school visits are organised by the school. One or two-morning visits will be arranged. The Deputy Principal will be in contact once your enrolment forms have been received.

Out of Zone Enrolments

Each year the Board will determine the number of places for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone.

Our Out of Zone applications for 2024 are now closed.

Applications for out-of-zone enrolments will be processed in the following order:

  • First Priority. This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary.

  • Second Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.

  • Third Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.

  • Fourth Priority will be given to applicants who are a child of a former student of the school.
  • Fifth Priority will be given to applicants who are children of Board employees. or members.

  • Sixth Priority will be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth or fifth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.
