How to Enrol

All students who live within the home zone on the list of roads published on the Enrolment Zone page can enrol at St Heliers School.

You can enrol your child in two different ways:

  • In Person: School Enrolment forms can be collected from our school office.

  • Download: Please use the link to download Enrolment forms then scan completed forms to secretary@stheliers.schoool.nz or return in person to the school office.

Each year, applications for enrolment for the following year from in-zone students, will be sought by a date that will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. This will enable the Board to assess the number of places that can be made available to students who live outside the home zone.

Cohort Entry

Cohort entry is when new entrants start school in groups through the year, rather than on their fifth birthday.  St Heliers School has adopted a policy of cohort entry.  New entrants will start in cohorts, however only after your child has turned 5.  There are two entry dates per term, one on the first day of term, and one at a mid-term date during the term. These dates can be found on the school calendar.

Pre-school Visits

As a student nears their school start date, pre-school visits are organised by the school. One or two-morning visits will be arranged. The Deputy Principal will be in contact once your enrolment forms have been received.

International Student Enrolments

Application for Out of Zone Enrolments for New Entrants for 2025

Enrolment at St Heliers School is governed by an enrolment scheme. The Board has determined that a limited number of places are likely to be available for new entrant out-of-zone students for this year (2025).

New Entrant children turning 5 after 11th March 2025 and before 26 May (10 places for Term 2)

New Entrant children turning 5 after 26 May 2025 and before 10 November (10 places for Term 3 and 4)

Application for places must be submitted on the application form available from the school office or the school website.

The deadline for receipt of applications is by 3.00pm, Tuesday 8 April 2025.

If a ballot is required, it will be held on Tuesday 8 April 2025 at 3.30pm.

Applicants will be informed within three school days of the ballot being held.

Out-of-zone applications for 2026 will be advertised to the community in August this year, with an open morning for prospective out of zone parents and caregivers on Wednesday 20 August (9.15-10.40am, school hall).

Applications for out-of-zone enrolments will be processed in the following order:

  • First Priority. This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary.

  • Second Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.

  • Third Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.

  • Fourth Priority will be given to applicants who are a child of a former student of the school.

  • Fifth Priority will be given to applicants who are children of Board employees or members.

  • Sixth Priority will be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth or fifth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued under Sections 71-75 and schedule 20  of the Education and Training Act 2020. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.
