Principal’s Welcome

St Heliers School is a welcoming community that is innovative and encouraging, where sound values underpin all school activities.

Welcome,

I have had the privilege of joining and leading St Heliers School since 2022. I have 33 years of experience in education, teaching and leading full primary, intermediate and independent schools in New Zealand and abroad. I bring to the role 22 years of experience as Principal, St Heliers being my fourth school as Principal. I immediately fell in love with our school children and warm community who are incredibly supportive and caring of the school team serving our children.

St Heliers is a school that strives for excellence. Our aim is to guide and nurture each student to reach their potential in all areas of school life. Integral to achieving this aim is having a close partnership between home and school.

Being a full primary (Years 1 to 8) we are in a unique position to see the development of the students from bright-eyed 5 year olds to young adolescents. We see this as a huge advantage over schools which stop at Year 6 or start at Year 7. From the earliest stages of their schooling, students are encouraged to be independent, responsible learners.

Our dedicated and caring team of teachers, teacher aides, and admin staff are lifelong learners who always seek opportunities to increase their understanding of student’s needs and potential. We encourage all parents and caregivers to see themselves as part of OUR St Heliers School family and take an active role in the life of the school. The day your child starts school, you start contributing to the life of the school. As a school community, we thrive when home and school share even little successes and collaborate respectfully and swiftly when the need arises.

Older students are expected to look out for younger students. At the start of the year senior classes are buddied up with a junior class to support the children in various aspects of their schooling. This also helps to create the family atmosphere we want at St Heliers.

Ngā mihi nui,
— Sean Valvoi, Principal
