Impressive Performance at Water Polo Tournament
From June 21-23, St Heliers proudly participated in the New Zealand Water Polo Winterfest Year 7/8 Tournament.
Our first team achieved an impressive 7th place out of the 60 teams that entered. This is a remarkable accomplishment, especially considering we competed against schools with significantly larger student populations, such as Murray’s Bay Intermediate, which has over 1,100 students in Years 7 and 8, and schools with their own swimming pools.
Our junior team competed in the C-Grade competition and finished in fourth place. They went undefeated until the semi-finals, showcasing their determination and skill. Despite their valiant effort in the finals, the team, mostly composed of Year 5 and 6 students, faced a tough challenge against the best teams of 12- and 13-year-olds.
A heartfelt thank you to Tom Dunbar, a former student and brother of Ruby, for coaching our A team. We also extend our gratitude to Nicole Sanders and Leanne Davies for managing the teams, as well as all the parents for their unwavering support and transportation assistance.
Congratulations to all our players for their outstanding performances!
Tim Hornibrook (Coach)
A big thanks to Tim for coaching the team and organising them to compete at this tournament.
