Terehu - Year 0-2 Dinosaur Day

On Wednesday 26th June the Y0-2 Terehu Team had a Dinosaur Day to support our inquiry learning for Term 2.  All the children dressed as paleontologists and Aaron from the Auckland Museum visited our school to share his knowledge of dinosaurs and stories from the past. The children were totally engaged and probably the most exciting part was touching fossilised dinosaur poo!!  The scientific name for dinosaur poo is coprolite.  The children discovered that paleontologists used coprolite to learn about dinosaurs’ diet, habitat and physiology.

The children created dinosaur habitats using resources from around the school, home and classroom.  Earlier in the week the children had been excavating dinosaurs from eggs. The fossilised remains from the egg excavation were added to their dinosaur habitats.

At the end of the day, a scavenger hunt was enjoyed by all concluding with a tasty treat from the Ice Age - (lemonade iceblocks!!)  Big thank you to the Huston Four Square Family for donating our treats.
