Y6 Tiritirimatangi Trip

On Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 February the Year 6 children travelled to the island bird sanctuary Tiritirimatangi.

'“This term as Year 6s we are learning about Biodiversity. Last week the three classes went to TiriTiri Matangi which is an island in the Hauraki Gulf. It takes just over an hour to get there by ferry from Downtown Auckland.

On arrival the ranger Nick told us about the island and how to take care of the island. Next we all got into groups with our parent help and volunteer to walk up the tracks on the island to the Lighthouse.

Quickly we saw and heard a lot of birds and invertebrates like Kokako, Hihi, Kakariki, Popokatea, Tui, Tieke, and we even got to see a huge Wetapunga! Unfortunately it was too hot so we were unable to see the Takahe.

The trip was very fun and we learnt a lot about biodiversity, bird species and different habitats. Thank you to everyone who helped out on the day.”
